02 Use cases

Four ways people
build their library.

Product builders & founders

A growing library of decisions and references — findable by anything you remember.

Founder podcasts, user interviews, competitor talks, and launch videos pile up quickly.

Content creators

Move from raw recordings to notes and clip candidates — without rewatching everything.

Raw footage, podcasts, and live recordings need to become titles, quotes, scripts, and clips.

Researchers

Recordings turn into a library you can search and quote from — without replaying each file.

Conference talks, expert interviews, and field recordings need careful, citable review.

Lifelong learners

Review the important parts first, save what you want to remember, and find it again when needed.

Courses, lectures, and how-to videos pile up faster than you can review them.

04 FAQ

Answers, before
you ask.

Is Trace just a transcription tool?

No. Trace turns any recording into a searchable AI knowledge base. You get AI summaries with chapters, ask questions and check the answer against the recording, save the moments worth remembering as Highlights, and find any phrase later with one search.

What data leaves my Mac?

Media files stay on your Mac for transcription. When you use AI features such as Summary, Chat, or Translation, Trace sends the needed transcript text to the provider you configured. You choose the provider and the account.

Is transcription really local and private?

Yes. Trace runs transcription entirely on your Mac using Whisper-class models. Your media files never leave your device for core transcription, and your library is stored locally.

Can I use Trace without API keys?

Yes. Local transcription, transcript review, search, and plain text export work without any AI API key. Provider setup is only needed for AI features like Summary, Chat, and Translation. Trace supports Codex, OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, DeepSeek, Kimi, MiniMax, and OpenRouter.

What can I do before buying Pro?

The free version lets you bring in any video or audio, transcribe recordings on your Mac, read the transcript, search your whole library, and export as plain text. Pro unlocks higher-accuracy transcription, AI summaries with chapters and insights, chat with timestamp-cited answers, saved Highlights with notes, bilingual translation, and richer export formats (SRT, VTT, Markdown). There's no time limit on the free version.

What video and audio sources are supported?

Paste links from YouTube, Apple Podcasts, X (Twitter), and other supported sites — or drag in local video and audio files in all common formats (MP4, MOV, MP3, WAV, M4A, and more).

What's your refund policy?

A 14-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked. See our refund policy for details.

What if I lose my license key?

You can retrieve it anytime from our license recovery page. Just enter your purchase email and you will get a magic link to view all your orders and keys.

Try one transcript first.

Think of a podcast you never finished, or a talk you keep meaning to revisit. Paste the link or drop in the file — Trace turns it into a searchable, timestamped transcript in minutes. Then decide if Pro's worth it.
